Personal statement
I began my career at the University of Strathclyde in March 1993 as an Office Junior Secretary within the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering. After five years in this role, I took a career break to travel, returning in 2000 to rejoin the same department in an administrative capacity. Since then, I have steadily progressed through a variety of roles, advancing to my current position as Department Operations Manager.
With over two decades of experience in the higher education sector, I have developed a broad and in-depth understanding of university operations. I currently lead a team of seven and am responsible for the day-to-day management of departmental operations, including HR, finance, and strategic planning. My role requires a high level of organisational skill, adaptability, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Throughout my career, I have remained committed to fostering a supportive and efficient working environment. I take pride in mentoring staff, streamlining processes, and contributing to the department’s long-term success. I am passionate about continuous improvement and am always seeking opportunities to enhance both my own professional development and the effectiveness of the team I lead.
